The German-Turkish airline Sun Express is convinced that this year the demand for a holiday in Turkey will be as high as it is in 2019. Therefore, it plans daily flights to this country from 15 airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Sun Express is a joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. Its business model is based on three pillars: servicing typical tourist traffic from German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), the so-called ethnic travel . All is about visiting family and friends of Turks living abroad and in domestic traffic in Turkey. Thanks to such diverse passenger segments, the carrier emerged unscathed from the pandemic and even achieved profits.
Last year, the operating result was EUR 59 million, with a turnover of EUR 750 million and 6 million passengers.
This season, the company's bosses put more hopes on typically tourist flights - says president Max Kownatzki, quoted by the German tourism industry portal Reise-vor9. For now, ticket sales are greater than at the same time in 2019.
This year, the Sun Express flight schedule includes a total of 14 destinations in Anatolia, to which it will be possible to fly from 18 cities in Europe. There were a few novelties like flights from Düsseldorf to Ordu, from Dortmund to Zonguldak, from Vienna to Kayseri and Samsun, as well as from Copenhagen to Ankara.
