The giant asteroid will soon flit past the Earth

A large rocky asteroid will fly past Earth next week. It is kilometers long and has been classified as "potentially dangerous" due to its size and regular visits to our planet, the specialist portal ScienceAlert reported on Wednesday.

The website, which informs about scientific research and discoveries, reassures that the visit of an asteroid twice the size of the New York Empire State Building will be safe. The asteroid will fly 1.93 million km from Earth, or about 5.15 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. Calculations of its trajectory indicate that there is no risk of it colliding with Earth anytime soon. It will be visible to amateur astronomers.

"The closest approach will take place on January 18 at 16.51. Known as the asteroid (7482) 1994 PC1, this space rock was discovered in 1994 by astronomer Robert McNaught at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia," he recalled. " ScienceAlert ".
